Grief

God,
I have to bury my best friend tomorrow. There'll be no more long telephone calls on Sunday afternoons. No more newsy ten-page letters written in interrupted snatches of time. No more reminiscing about all the happy times we've shared. My best friend won't smile with me again. I stand in the chilled shadow of death. But you, Lord, are the eternal Light that shines from the other side of death's valley. Please light my way through this darkness. Give me courage tomorrow when I say my last good-bye to my best friend, Thank you for taking my pace with her.

                                              Amen and Good Night, God
