THE FATHER’S GIFT by Carol Ann Erhardt

Carol Ann Erhardt writes stories her fans categorize as emotional, suspenseful and inspirational. She lives in central Ohio and enjoys spare time hobbies of reading and crocheting. She loves to laugh and her three cats, Charlotte, Wilbur, and Templeton provide much amusement. So does her family and she hosts monthly family dinners where cousins and siblings find time to bond.

She loves God and spends time every morning reading the Bible, devotions, and doing Bible Studies. She loves to sing praises, though she laughingly admits, off-key.

She is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW).

If you could have dinner with one person from today or history (except Jesus) who would it be?
My father. He was only 19 when he was killed during World War II. He was on a ship at his battle station when a kamikaze pilot struck. Many lives were lost that day. I have letters he wrote to my mother while he was at sea and he shared his love for me in them. I would love to share stories of my life and how he has always been in my heart. I’d like to hear stories from his youth and spend time laughing with him. I know we’ll meet one day in heaven, but spending an evening sharing stories and love over dinner would be awesome.

Please tell us a little about your novel, The Father’s Gift.
The Father’s Gift is the third book in my Havens Creek series. The series started as a stand-alone book, but readers kept writing to me

asking if I was going to write more stories about this quaint little mountain town. They wanted a secondary character from the first book to have a happily ever after. And so the series was born. The Father’s Gift is a story I’d been struggling with for several years because it just didn’t feel right. But when I moved it into Havens Creek, the characters began to speak to me. Many secrets were revealed and the story blossomed and became one of my favorite books to date. The title of the book eluded me during the writing process, and it was only after writing the end that God gave me the perfect title. He is the One who gives me the stories and words and to Him goes all the glory!

Braden and Mark are twins and though they look alike they have different aspirations and dreams. Braden needs a structured life, one he can control, and unfortunately tries to control his brother’s life as well, trying to turn him into someone he can’t be. Mark is a free spirit, happy and content with his job working on motorcycles and riding his Harley without a helmet. The twins were adopted at an early age and Braden has hidden his angry feelings about parents who would abandon their own children. Mark wants to know more about his father and searches to find him.

Braden is in love with Allison, though he doesn’t act on these feelings because he believes his brother and Allison are an item, something the entire town also believes.

Allison’s brother and his wife, Dana, are expecting a baby. The birth is due a year after the stillbirth of their son, Luke. Dana is afraid to open her heart to love a child again for fear of losing another baby.

The book is set during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, but can be read at any time because the story is about the characters and the struggles they face.

A reviewer said: “Once again I was pulled into the story from the very beginning and didn't want to stop reading until the final pages. The story conveys the beautiful message of God's love and care as the characters deal with, among other things, broken and strife-filled relationships, a kidnapping, and a frustrated couple seeking to find their way to romance.” Another reviewer said: “She brings her characters to life in each book, you fall in love with them from the first page. I agree with other reviews...each book can stand alone!! Though characters from past books make an appearance in this quaint town, meeting new ones and going along with them on their journey in seeking God, forgiveness and finding love and peace is rewarding.”

What takeaway value do you want your readers to have?
I’d like my readers to close the book with a happy sigh, because they were entertained and they understand how God can work miracles and turn even the worst of circumstances into something beautiful.
