     A HUSBAND FOR CHRISTMAS
           by Gail Gaymer Martin

Multi-award-winning novelist, Gail Gaymer Martin is
the author of Christian contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and women’s fiction with 58 contracted novels and four million books sold. CBS local news listed Gail as one of the four best writers in the Detroit area. She is a cofounder of American Christian Fiction Writers and serves on the Executive Board, a member of Advanced Speakers and Writers and Christian Authors Network. Gail is a keynote speaker at churches, civic and business organizations and enjoys presenting workshops at conferences across the U.S.  She is a lifetime resident of Michigan.

Welcome, Gail. What do you enjoy doing for relaxation?
Traveling is my favorite way to relax even though I’m on the go sightseeing, but it’s different, especially if it’s a place I’ve never been. But daily at home, I relax in different ways. One is to exercise for thirty minutes on my recumbent bicycle. Often I watch the Home and Garden TV channel since I enjoy decorating. I feel exhilarated from burning a few calories and it also stimulates my mind and offers the perfect idea for my novel. But two other ways happen in the evening if I’m not heading to a rehearsal. I love to read and try to squeeze in a few pages of a novel or I watch a movie, the old classics or modern movies with suspense or romance (such as Hallmark). Occasionally we rent a movie from On Demand.

What do you enjoy about writing?
I enjoy bringing ideas to life through flawed characters and well-paced stories To me, my novels are modern day parables that bring answers and truths to readers. I love hearing from readers who have been touched and motivated by the message or truth they find in the story.

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it a success?
I am thrilled when readers tell others about my latest book or any of my books. Word of mouth is the best form of support. I’m also pleased when readers share some of my Facebook posts about anything, especially if they share their enjoyment of my newest book. Another big form of support it to leave reviews on the major online bookstores who sell my books.

Please tell us a little about your novel, A Husband For Christmas.
A Husband For Christmas is the second novel in the

Lilac Circle series. Lilac Circle is a fictitious cul de sac in the real town of Owosso, Michigan. Readers have met a number of Lilac Circle’s residents and their goings-on and will meet new ones as well, some wise, some nosy, some struggling and some happy and falling in love. Each novel will revolve around a character or two who live on the neighborly small town street.

The back cover information says:
The Bachelor Next Door - Spending her holidays in picturesque Lilac Circle, Michigan, is the perfect place for Nina Jerome to start anew. She's determined to put her painful divorce in the past and focus on the future. She hadn't planned on being distracted by her sweet neighbor, Doug Billings. The successful businessman and temporary dad is clueless when it comes to taking care of his little niece. Getting help from Nina is the perfect setup—but something about the pretty new nanny makes him think about the unthinkable: having a wife and a family of his own. Can he convince Nina that she's worthy of a second chance at love—just in time for Christmas?

    2. Thanks so much, Merry - It's nice to hear readers say they enjoy my books. In longer bios, I do talk about some of those things -- but not totally. I think some of the questions reveal my passions (besides my husband) :-) which is music and travel. I've been a choral singer and soloist for years and find it difficult to give up even though it takes time from writing. A deep passion is traveling, especially to other countries. I've been blessed to visit many of them but I still have a bucket list. One thing I love to do is share this kind of information in my bi-monthly newsletter and readers can subscribe to that easily in the sidebar of my website. The addresses are protected by MailChimp. www.gailgaymermartin.com. And you will note that I enjoy adding recipes at the end of my novels.

    2. Hi Bonnie - The world is filled with ideas. I get them from little pieces of real life that stick in my head and sometimes fall together in little niches (I have holes in my head, I think) :-) Some come from Bible verses that make me ask What If.... Some come from newspaper articles or magazine topics. So many ways the stories strike me. I'm married to Bob and I have two step-children Brenda died about 8 years ago from ovarian cancer and I still fall apart occasionally at the lose. Our son is amazing and we heave one granddaughter and two great grandsons. Sadly they live in Tulsa, OK and we live in Michigan. But we do see them and communicate often. I am the oldest child in my family with a younger sister and brother. I adore them and we are best friends as well as siblings.

    2. I attended Wayne State University in Detroit where I received my bachelor's degree in secondary education and taught English and Public Speaking (a double major).. My Masters in counseling was granted by Waye State but I took courses from Un of Michigan, Madonna, and Eastern Michigan and was an summer intern at Oakland County Schools. Pretty boring. I was a counselor for 23 years. And later taught at Davenport University part-time by their request -- for five years until my writing career took over and I resigned from the position. They asked me back numerous times but I wanted to devote my time to writing.

    2. Pamela, I was blessed to be born into a Christian family. I knew Jesus from day one so an exact moment is not in my memory but I can tell you that as I became a novelist, writing stories about people who are struggling with life issues and who are looking for answers, and reading the Bible to find the answers for these characters, my faith has grown in that I feel the Holy Spirit at work in my writing and in my life. God and Jesus were always shining around me - but the Spirit was not a bright light until I opened my eyes to His amazing guidance and work in my life. I am now a complete believer with strength given to me by the Three In One. Praise God for that blessing. And blessings to you also.

  11. Thanks for this feature. Gail, my first Love Inspired book was your "A Mother to Love" and I loved it. I passed it on to my mother-in-law and she loves it now too! As to features I like to read is how the book was inspired or what was the inspiration behind a character or setting or something interesting.

    1. Hi Just Commonly -- Love your "handle". Your question in an excellent one but hard to answer in a short time. I'm sure characters are a conglomeration of real people that I know or have experienced. I never tell anyone's story -- and in my years of counseling, understand people and what moves them, what drives them, what undermines them is second nature to me, and from my training, I know how to offer solutions to their issues bound in faith as well as practical life skills. My settings often are set in a place I know well - Michigan. I have favorite places and have explored small towns doing research for my books -- talking to the people, learning what goes on in the town and which restaurants are the most popular. I love having real life places, events and houses in my books. I talk to townspeople and I find someone I can call or email to ask questions. I've written about a number of foreign countries I have visited and places in the US that I know fairly well. I've written stories set in the Monterrey area of California and I will write some fiction set in Sedona Arizona since I live there in the winter months. I love the beauty of the landscape and the feeling of God's presence in this amazing display of nature. There's a calmness and quiet there that I love. Many blessings to you. I hope to add a couple more books to the Lilac Circle series besides the one here - A Husband For Christmas.

  12. I think it's always interesting to read about the historical research the author does as they write their book. Gail was a new to me author until a few days ago. A few days ago I was looking at my to be read shelf and found a book that looked very interesting and decided to read it. This book is called The English Garden . It is a collection of 4 novellas of which , Gail has a story in it. Her contribution is a story entitled Apple of His Eye. I very much enjoyed reading Sarah and John's story. This is the only story I've read by, Gail but I would really love to read A Husband For Christmas.. I recently have discovered the Love Inspired line of books. What I enjoy about Love Inspired is they are great romance stories filled with hope and perseverance but they are respectful and clean reads. This is important to me ! Thank you for the giveaway opportunity. It was wonderful to visit with you today, Jo and Gail .

    4. Hi Deanna - and congrats. I see you're a winner of my newest release - A Husband For Christmas. The first book in the series is A Mother To Love - so you might enjoy that one too. I'll get the book to you asap. I'm so glad you enjoyed Apple of His Eye, that was in part created from a twisted version of a tree incident in my family -- the main part was the cyder recipe which Long John as he was really called and his wife Mary Chapman. The cider did become a royal warrant cyder in history with Queen Mary and the present day Queen Elizabeth. Historicals take tons of research.and that's why I mainly writing contemporary -- although I still do tons of research. I want my novels to be real and accurate of facts. Blessings.

  14. I was visiting my sister-in-law last week (what a wonderfully relaxing week it was, too!) & picked up two of your Love Inspired books from a discount book store, Gail (The Firefighters New Family & Rescued by the Firefighter). I was wondering if these are a part of a series? If so, I'll be looking for the others to pick up. I know I have a few more of you LI on my shelf, because I've seen your name on the spines :-)
What I like to read about an author....I like to know they are real people with families, kids, spouses, pets & etc! I love to see how they develop their stories & where their inspiration comes from (other than God of course), why they write the genre they write in and all that good stuff :-) Just like getting to know a new friend & developing a long friendship with them, I like to know all aspects of their lives. I like to rejoice with them when something good happens or cry with them when heartache comes or help encourage them along the way somehow. Like I said, I want to know they are real people and want to share part of their lives with us! Thank you for the chance to win a copy of "A Husband for Christmas", sounds like a wonderful story!

  15. When I come upon Christian Fiction authors who I am unfamiliar with, it is important to me to know where their faith comes from. I appreciate authors who have websites and/or blogs that transparently showcase their faith. I guess it's the discerning person in me who worries about an authors integrity. By the way, I visited Gail's website and signed up for her newsletter. I was already familiar with her work, but I was very happy with her informational website and outward devotion to Lord.

    2. Terrill - thank you for visiting my website and yes, I am a devoted lifelong Christian. I grew up in a Christian home where church was a priority and Bible study - and love of Jesus. My mom was always active at church until her dying day a few years ago. What a loss for me. My brother and sister are both active Christians as well -- and so are their families. I think when you grow up learning that in the Lord you have hope and loving promises that give you strength and courage in difficult times, you cling to those wonderful words the Lord provides for us in His Word. My husband went through a horrible illness this January while we were in our winter residence in Arizona. He spent three months in the hospital, and I will say that the staff and specialists all believed in the power of prayer when they watched him heal with only an 85 to 90% chance of surviving. They called him the Miracle Patient that would be remembered at Flagstaff Medical Center. Bob is still under specialists care but he is doing so well and we praise the Lord every day for that gift. Blessings to you - and I hope you received my October 1 newsletter that went out yesterday.
