           STARLIGHT IN HER EYES
                  by JoAnn Durgin

JoAnn Durgin is the author of the beloved Lewis Legacy Series of contemporary Christian romantic adventures as well as Prelude, the prequel to The Lewis Legacy Series. JoAnn’s stand-alone novels include Catching Serenity and Heart’s Design. Her short novels include Love So Amazing (The Wondrous Love Series, Book 1), Perchance to Dream, Echoes of Edinburgh, and the popular Starlight Christmas Series. A former estate administration paralegal, JoAnn now enjoys writing full-time and lives with her husband, Jim, three children and first grandbaby, Amelia Grace, in her native southern Indiana.

Welcome, JoAnn! If you could have dinner with one person from today or history (except Jesus) who would it be? Why?
I find great humor in the writings of Mark Twain, and I believe he’d make a fascinating dinner companion. Although I might cringe a bit with his caustic wit and/or salty language, Mr. Twain would undoubtedly make me laugh and I’m sure we’d engage in a spirited discussion (especially if the topic turned to matters of faith). However, I’d most love the opportunity to discuss the art of writing with him. Or discuss pretty much of anything. I’m sure it wouldn’t be boring.

What fun or unique things can you tell us about yourself?
*I sometimes go to the movie theater ONLY to buy a big tub of layered butter popcorn. It’s a rare indulgence, but what a treat!
*I adore making gifts a work of art, and that includes using the best quality wrapping paper, ribbon, and exquisite silk flowers cascading on the top down the sides of a package. Wedding and baby gifts are my favorite packages to wrap.
*If I’d been taller, no doubt in my mind I would have been an international flight attendant for a few years to see the world. It helps that I love to fly, of course!

Please describe yourself with three words.
Creative, loyal, honest.

What is your favorite Bible verse?
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (NASB)

This is my theme verse for my life and my writing ministry.

What do you enjoy most about writing?
Not knowing where my characters and story will go when I sit down to write. I’m a seat-of-the-pants writer. Nothing is more challenging than sitting in front of a blank computer screen…and off I go! Thank the Lord, I’ve never experienced writer’s block, and I doubt I ever do. I pray before each writing session, and I take writing breaks, but those breaks are never very long. Writing is my passion, and I’m so blessed to be doing what I love full-time!

What can your readers expect from you next?
I’m currently writing Love So Divine, Book 2 in my Wondrous Love Series after Love So Amazing. I hope to release it in mid-January 2016. Next up is Abide, Book 7 in my Lewis Legacy Series, which I hope to release in the early spring.

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
Telling others about the book is one of the best ways to help authors. Positive reviews (especially on Amazon) also help to promote an author’s books. Readers can share our posts on Facebook or post on our wall about how much they enjoyed a book. Authors dearly love private messages and emails, too!

Please tell us a little about your novel, Starlight in Her Eyes.
Colin Young embraces the Christmas season as the new television co-host of Wake Up, Philadelphia! His

fun and spontaneous “Out and About” segments in the City of Brotherly Love are a ratings winner. Only one problem—the beautiful but intriguing assistant assigned to help make his transition easier doesn’t seem to like him much.

Serena Monroe has no time for the cheeky Brit with a glowing professional reputation but a lengthy personal history with women. Betrayed by one high-profile man, she doesn’t need another. Her sole focus is her daughter, Lily. But then Serena begins to see that Colin is

nothing like she assumed. He’s a man of faith who inspires everyone around him. Dare she take a chance on love again?

When Colin invites Serena and Lily to share Christmas with him in the little town of Starlight, Iowa, can they discover a holiday miracle of their own?

NOTE: This is the fourth book in The Starlight Christmas Series and you can purchase it for 99 cents on Amazon through December. The other three preceding books are also only 99 cents each through December on Amazon, as well. Starlight in Her Eyes CAN be read on its own, but as always, if a reader has read the previous books, it makes for an even richer reading experience. OTHER PREVIOUS BOOKS ARE: Meet Me Under the Mistletoe; Starlight, Star Bright; and Sleigh Ride Together with You.

Any parting comment?
Thank you for the opportunity to be on your wonderful blog today, Jo!

Please leave a question you’d like readers to answer.
QUESTION FOR READERS: Other than a basis in faith, what are three important elements for you as a reader that make a Christian Christmas book more satisfying (for example, a lesson in forgiveness, a small town setting, etc.)?

JoAnn, thank you for visiting today and for offering an eBook copy giveaway of Starlight in Her Eyes.

No blog post last week on Thanksgiving Day, so no winner to announce.

Till next time … keep on smiling.

  4. I am a follower. Three elements I enjoy in a Christian Christmas book are a setting with snow and a cozy warm house (doesn't have to be small time but those are usually more interesting to me), a lesson or reminder of the true meaning of Christmas such as forgiveness or acceptance of others as in helping a needy family, and a good story line with some action.

  6. You are a new author to me and I enjoy being introduced to them.
I enjoy a Christmas book that of course has the birth of Christ story, new beginnings and forgiveness whether for another person or themselves.

    2. Thank you, Karen. The first book in the same series with Starlight in Her Eyes (this is the fourth book) has the Christmas story. The others build upon it and are solidly Christian in their presentation and focus more on those new beginnings, forgiveness, and redemption. I hope you'll get the opportunity to read one or more since they're all very inexpensive in ebook format right now. Many blessings!

  8. For the 3 elements I enjoy about Christmas, Christian-oriented books, I enjoy clean romance, a female who learns she is, with God's help, stronger and smarter than she realized, and why Christmas is Light in her life. Thanks!

  10. Hello Jo and JoAnn. Joann, I follow you on Inspy and I loved your recent post about a Christmas trip "miracle." You have great fodder for your books, b/c that sounded like something I would read in a fiction story. :)

I have to say that I don't go out seeking Christmas stories just because the holidays are upon us. I will read them whenever, especially if they are part of a series that doesn't necessarily revolve around Christmas. I'm fine with reading a Christmas story while lying on a beach in Puerto Rico. haha In Christian fiction, in general, if I am unfamiliar with the author, I will first research the author and try to find out more about their faith. I love when an author is highly transparent on their website in regards to their love of Jesus. After that I am fairly flexible with writing tropes except I always enjoy, at the very least, a little bit of romance. Who am kidding - Bring the romance!

    2. Hi there Terrill R.! Thanks for being such a loyal Inspy Romance follower. My Christmas Series can be read at any time, and I wrote a book last year ON the beach in Puerto Rico, as a matter of fact (Love So Amazing). Funny you should mention it! I'm glad you enjoy romance. You certainly get that in my books! Blessings to you and yours during this most joyous Christmas season!
