SAPPHIRE SECRETS
by Dawn V. Cahill

“The characters in my stories face situations that would have been unthinkable 20 years ago,” says author Dawn V. Cahill. “We live in a vastly different world than our parents did -- a world of terror and violence, of upside-down morality, of hostility to Judeo-Christian values.” Her stories feature ordinary Christians following hard after Christ in this not-so-brave new world.

Ms. Cahill also blogs about puppies, substance abuse, and single parenting…sometimes all in the same day. She has written several newspaper articles, two novels, and more limericks than she can count. She is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers.

Sapphire Secrets – Seattle Trilogy, Book I: What if you suspected you’d been lied to all your life? How far would you go to uncover the truth?

Twins Livy and DeeDee McCreary open a dance studio in honor of their late mother, whom they lost when they were six. Problem is, Livy remembers nothing of the day her mother died. The more she questions her family about that awful day, the more she suspects she’s been lied to all her life. While she’s seeking answers to what really happened, she keeps crossing paths with handsome engineer Scott Lorenzo, who compels her to question the New Age philosophy she was raised on. What if there is a personal God out there who cares about her?

Before Livy can discover answers, a brutal accident interrupts her search. Her life flips upside down as she faces a future she is not prepared for. Yet the unanswered questions continue to haunt her. Can she find the strength to keep on with her quest, even if it means losing the two people most dear to her—her twin, and the man she loves?

IN THIS TOGETHER
                    by Gail Kittleson

Gail taught ESL and college expository writing before
focusing on her own writing. WhiteFire Publishing released Gail’s memoir, Catching Up With Daylight in 2013, and her debut women’s historical fiction, In This Together released in 2015 with Wild Rose Press/Vintage imprint.

Meeting readers and authors excites Gail, and she delights in facilitating writing workshops and women’s retreats. She and her husband enjoy their family in northern Iowa, and in winter, the Arizona mountains.

Welcome, Gail. Please tell us a little about your novel, In This Together.
After losing her only son to World War II and her husband soon after, Dottie Kyle takes a job at a local

boarding house. Her daughter Cora moved to California straight out of high school to work for the war effort, married a sailor and settled down in the Golden State—another loss.

Dottie contributes to her rural Iowa world in down-to-earth ways—cooking and cleaning, volunteering at her church, and tending her garden. But when troubles arise in Cora’s third pregnancy, Dottie longs to help, and meet her two precious grandbabies out in California. However, old fears prohibit her from making that arduous, cross-country train journey.

At the boarding house, complications arise that force Dottie to speak up for what’s right, and as her confidence grows, so does the heartfelt interest of the widower next door. Second chances lie just around the corner!

Any parting comment?
Thanks for having me, Jo. I’d like to chat a bit about second chances—sometimes we have no idea they await us. That’s the way it is for Dottie when we meet her in my novel, In This Together. She trudges to and from work every day, unaware of the attention her neighbor Al would love to shower upon her.

But Al knows Dottie quite well, and her independence intimidates him. Of course, he knows nothing about how her daughter in California needs her, or how helpless Dottie feels over the old fears that bind her.

At the same time, Dottie has no clue about Al’s well-hidden fears. But that’s all a part of getting to know each other, right? Understanding some complications of a loved one’s personality can take decades, because humans are capable of obscuring their true feelings.

Readers, as Valentine’s Day approaches, the focus is on romance, but how have you experienced a new level of understanding in one of your relationships, romantic or otherwise?

Thank you, Gail, for visiting with my readers and me. One of the commenters will win an eBook copy of In This Together, which you've offered.

A RELUCTANT MELODY
by Sandra Ardoin

Sandra Ardoin writes inspirational historical romance. She’s the author of The Yuletide Angel and A Reluctant Melody. A wife and mom, she’s also a reader, football fan, NASCAR watcher, garden planter, country music listener, antique store prowler.

Welcome, Sandra. Where is your favorite vacation spot?
My husband and I prefer the mountains to the beach. We spent our honeymoon in the Smoky Mountains. We like trees and a landscape that isn’t flat. We’ll often head to the Blue Ridge Mountains (a couple hours away) for a day trip. We also like to go to the North Carolina Sandhills area on a day trip or overnight.

What do you enjoy doing for relaxation?
When I’m not reading at night I’m watching TV with my husband. I love football and NASCAR Sundays. I used to do much more gardening than I do now.

What is your favorite Bible verse?
I have two favorites (technically, three). The first, for encouragement, is Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV): “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
and
Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV): For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” If that doesn’t keep a person humble, I don’t know what will.

What do you enjoy most about writing?
Writing is an acceptable outlet for releasing all the people and situations trampling through my mind. (No, I’m not schizophrenic.) I love being able to use my imagination to create people, places, and emotional experiences that provide others with entertainment and, hopefully, minister to them in some way.

Do you have a dedicated place to write, or a nook or corner of a room, or the kitchen table?
Before my husband retired, I wrote in the formal

living room. Although it was off the beaten path, it attracted unexpected company regularly. Now, I write
at my desk in our guest room. All the furniture makes
the small room a bit crowded, but (mostly) private. (Shh! When my child leaves the nest, I’m taking over her room and making it my office.) Here are a couple of my writing buddies.

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
Here are a few suggestions:
These days a book needs reviews. After you read A Reluctant Melody, I would be grateful for an honest review on Amazon and/or Barnes and Noble and Goodreads. The best is simply a sentence or two that tells others what you liked about the book.

When you meet people who enjoy Christian fiction, please suggest the book to them and tell them a little about it.

Ask your library (church and/or public) to order it.

Take a photo of yourself with the book cover (print or shown on an e-reader). Put it on social media and tag me. You’ll find my links below. Send me the image with your permission to put it on my website.

Add the cover to a Pinterest board of favorite reads.

With so many books out there and not enough time to read them all, it can be difficult for any writer to gain attention for her stories. I’m truly thankful for whatever someone does to help my title become one others want to spend their precious time reading.

Please tell us a little about your novel, A Reluctant Melody.
A Reluctant Melody is a story of redemption and second chances. It asks the question, “Are we ever too bad to receive God’s forgiveness if we seek it through Christ?”

Kit Barnes’ alcoholism ruined more lives than his own. Now sober, he wants to make amends by opening a mission for drunkards. But the most suitable location belongs to Joanna Cranston Stewart, a love from his sordid past.

Friends of her late husband blame Joanna for his death. Although eager to flee from the rumors, she will let the walls of her rundown property crumble around her before she allows Kit back into her life.

When a blackmailer threatens to reveal Joanna’s long-held secret, will she risk losing everything she owns to Kit … including her heart?
