JUST CLAIRE by Jean Ann Williams

Jean Ann Williams enjoys recalling her interesting
childhood to gather nuggets for children's stories. She has published one hundred articles and stories for children and adult magazines, with true accounts in eight book anthologies. Just Claire is Jean Ann's debut novel. In Jean Ann's free time she enjoys hiking in the mountains, archery hunting, and caring for her chickens and goats on the farm.

If you could have dinner with one person from today or history (except Jesus) who would it be? Why?
I would have dinner with my son, Joshua. Joshua passed away eleven years ago at the age of twenty-five, and I still miss him with my whole heart.

What fun or unique things can you tell us about yourself?
I had such an imagination by the age of five that I truly believed I had a little man in my pocket and I would feed him crusts of bread at the dinner table.

I’m dyslectic, so it hindered me in my ability to read until I was in fourth grade.

It took me twenty years from idea to publication of this first novel Just Claire.

What is your favorite Bible verse?
"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Phil 4:13, KJV

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
Tell others about my book and give a book review.

Please tell us a little about your novel, Just Claire.
ClaireLee’s life changes when she must take charge
of her siblings after her mother becomes depressed from a difficult childbirth. Frightened by the way Mama sleeps too much and her crying spells during waking hours, ClaireLee just knows she'll catch her illness like a cold or flu that hangs on through winter. ClaireLee finds comfort in the lies she tells herself and others in order to hide the truth about her erratic mother. Deciding she needs to reinvent herself, she sets out to impress a group of popular girls.

With her deception, ClaireLee weaves her way into the Lavender Girls Club, the most sophisticated girls in school. Though her best friend Belinda will not be caught with the likes of such shallow puddles, ClaireLee ignores Belinda’s warnings the Lavenders cannot be trusted. ClaireLee drifts further from honesty, her friend, and a broken mother’s love, until one very public night at the yearly school awards ceremony. The spotlight is on her, and she finds her courage and faces the truth and then ClaireLee saves her mother’s life.

UNBALANCED by Leeann Betts

Leeann Betts writes contemporary suspense, while her real-life persona, Donna Schlachter, pens historical suspense. No Accounting for Murder and There Was a Crooked Man, books 1 and 2 in her By the Numbers series, released in the fall of 2015.  Book 3, Unbalanced, released in January. Book 4, Five and Twenty Blackbirds, released this month, with more planned for later dates. Leeann and Donna have penned a book on writing, Nuggets of Writing Gold. You can follow Leeann at www.AllBettsAreOff.wordpress.com and Donna at www.HiStoryThruTheAges.wordpress.com. All books are available at Amazon.com in digital and print.

Welcome, Leeann. What fun or unique things can you tell us about yourself?
As a pen name, I love nail polish, and often paint my nails in different colors. If I could reach my toes and keep my hand steady, I’d do the same with my toenails. As it is, I pine for a pedicure.

Also as a pen name, I am quick with the comebacks, always on point, and sharp as a razor blade.

Describe yourself with three words.
I’m going to let my real life persona, Donna Schlachter, do that, because she does it so well: Leeann is cute, perky, and all the things I’m not.

What do you enjoy most about writing?
I love almost everything about writing except editing. However, I think the thing I enjoy the most is coming up with the idea and asking the What If? Questions.

Please tell us a little about your novel, Unbalanced.
Carly Turnquist, forensic accountant, is happily planning her son’s wedding, when she sees a bank robbery that nobody else saw. Soon the story ends up on the local and then the national news, mocking her report and calling her credibility into question. When her husband’s long-lost brother shows up and then quickly disappears, leaving his young son behind, Carly has her hands full. And when somebody seems intent on making certain the wedding doesn’t happen, she jumps in to all three mysteries. Can she figure out what’s going on before she loses all ability to testify at a big upcoming court case?

THE SEAFARING WOMEN OF THE VERA B.
by
James Samuel Davis and Susan Page Davis

James Samuel Davis is a writer who has traveled in Australia, China, Micronesia, and Alaska. He resides in rural Travelers Rest, S.C., with his wife and seven children.

Susan Page Davis, James’s mom, is the author of more than sixty Christian novels and novellas. Her historical novels have won numerous awards, including the Carol Award, the Will Rogers Medallion for Western Fiction, and the Inspirational Readers’ Choice Contest.

Welcome, Jim and Susan. What fun or unique things can you tell us about yourself?
Susan: I was born on Memorial Day (the REAL one, not the moveable Monday holiday); and I once gave a less-than-memorable performance in The Mouse that Roared. I’ll tell one on Jim, my son and co-author: while he was in Australia on an agricultural exchange, he was herding cows on a motorcycle and wound up with a broken leg.

What is your favorite Bible verse?
"For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even unto death." Ps. 48:14, KJV.

What do you enjoy most about writing?
I love the planning stage and the research. It’s always exciting to dream up a new project, and I love brainstorming the plot.

The hardest part for me, when writing a historical, is trying to get everything right, or at least “not wrong.” This book was a research challenge, since it covers a wide range of settings and lots of activity I’m not expert at—sailing, antique firearms, the politics of the seas in the Nineteenth Century, and so much more.

What can your readers expect from you next?
Jim and I are planning book 2 in this series. Meanwhile, I am writing a western called My Heart Belongs in the Superstition Mountains, to release next spring. My most recent releases are Heart of a Cowboy and The Cowboy’s Bride.

Please tell us a little about your novel.
Our book is The Seafaring Women of the Vera B., set in 1854.

Alice Packard thinks the worst has happened when her husband, the ship’s captain, dies in Melbourne, Australia. Then she learns the crew has deserted her husband’s ship in favor of the goldfields. Only one old man, Gypsy Deak, sticks by her, but Gypsy alone can’t raise a crew from the depleted population. In desperation, Alice turns to the only source of plentiful workers: the women of Melbourne. In a bold move, she and Gypsy empty a brothel, promising the escaped women a new life. Her all-woman (save one) crew put their backs and hearts into the voyage, but Alice finds training her sailors much harder than she expected. Her faith is tested to the limit. With a cargo to sell, angry brothel and tavern owners in pursuit, pirates to evade, and a mysterious stowaway, will the seafaring women of the Vera B. survive to tell the tale of this daring adventure?

My mom. I’d like to ask her questions about things I don’t remember and ask her advice about things. I really miss her.

What is your favorite Bible verse?
I have so many favorite Bible verses, it is hard to pick just one. But for today, the one that is coming to my mind is “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

The Amish Firefighter is releasing in May and it will be followed by three more Amish books.

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
Review on your favorite online retail sites, tell your friends, libraries, book clubs, and others about it. Word of mouth is the best way to support an author.

Please tell us a little about your novel, The Amish Firefighter.
Can they overcome their past?

Abigail Stutzman’s life is about to change – whether she wants it to or not. Her mamm is getting remarried to a widower with a large family. Abigail is sent to live with her aenti and onkle in Jamesport because she and her new step-brother had dated and their parents anticipate problems. (Her step-brother is needed on the farm.) Abigail launches a full-scale plan to return home to her family—and Mark—when she finds herself in over her head…and heart. When Abigail and her new “wrong crowd” get into significant trouble, her punishment includes helping a collection of crazy old maids with housekeeping. In the midst of her atonement, Abigail uncovers family secrets that run deep, and realizes she’s not the only one with a pain-filled past. Abigail must decide if she’ll continue her messed-up legacy or embrace a new beginning with the man who’s stolen her heart.

Sam Miller has trouble of his own. When Sam and his close friend Ezra Weiss are in a drug/alcohol-related car accident in Pennsylvania, Ezra is killed. Though Sam survives, he is deeply affected by the tragedy and vows to help other victims. Now a new Christian, Sam is a volunteer firefighter and a college student working to earn his EMT and paramedic license. But Sam has a past. When it comes time to confess his crimes, he finds that the truth may set him free—but it might also land him in some uncomfortably hot water. Will Sam and Abigail be able to find a future together?
