Izzy James

Izzy James is the pen-name of Elizabeth Chevalier Hull.  Elizabeth grew up in coastal Virginia where she still lives with her fabulous husband in a house brimming with books.

Welcome, Izzy. If you could have dinner with one person from today or history (except Jesus) who would it be? Why?
Smith Wigglesworth. Smith walked with God in a very practical way. He was in constant conversation with Him. One time he was visiting with friends and God told him to go a certain place and sit on a park bench. He did that and after he'd been sitting for about five minutes a hiker came by and Smith got to tell the person about Christ. I would like to be able to be that certain that I have heard the Master's voice. He prayed for people and they were healed instantly. I would love to sit with Smith and hear what he had to say and ask him how I could better parse the noise with the sound of God's voice.

Please describe yourself with three words.
Short, Introvert, Christian

What do you enjoy doing for relaxation?
I read. Sometimes I go for long walks and bring a book.

What is your favorite Bible verse?
Only one?!  Ok, my favoritest verse, the one I go to all the time, is this one:
"Thou knowest my down-sitting and my up rising, thou understandest my thought afar off." Psalm 139:2 KJV

This verse was given to me at a crisis time in my life. The comfort I received is with me still. The Lord of Heaven not only knows when I stand and when I sit, He understands my thoughts. Not just knows them. He understands them. He understands where they came from and why I think whatever it is that I am thinking. It confirms for me the verses in Romans that tell me that nothing can separate me from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Because he understands me better than I do.

Please tell us a little about your novel, Finding Boaz.
Finding Boaz was recently chosen by the Library Journal to be a Self-e Select title. The Self-e program was started by the Library Journal to make available to library patrons across the nation books by indie authors.  Select titles are the best of those submitted from each state, which are then included in the national collection.

Finding Boaz is a novel about a woman who has been hurt by betrayal and is learning to love again.

Part-time musician and single mom, Abby Ericksen, just quit her job to escape a boss who made unwelcome advances. The same day, her deceitful ex-husband arrives demanding custody of their daughter. Another man is the LAST thing on Abby's mind when she meets the man she can't resist.

Duncan MacLeod needs a wife. The old family covenant requires that his wife-to-be ask him to marry. Covenant or not, Duncan is convinced that Abby is that woman. Can he overcome her distrust and prove his love is real? Real enough that she can trust him? Real enough that she will propose to him?

Any parting comment?
Just one parting thought. If you like a book, please consider leaving a review. Authors need reviews in order to qualify for certain advertising venues. I know it seems odd, but reviews are used by both traditionally published and self-published authors in order to get noticed.  If you have a negative review, that's fine too, but try to make it constructive. I don't know of any authors yet who don't appreciate candid feedback.

Leave a question you’d like readers to answer. (Commenters are not required to answer question to be entered in the book drawing.)
I was recently told by a reader that she really appreciated that one of my books had a heroine that was older. What do you think? Would you like to see more heroines that are older? If so, what age range would you find interesting?

Izzy, thanks for visiting with my readers and me. Izzy is offering a winner's choice of an eBook copy or a paperback copy of Finding Boaz to one commenter to this blog post.

SWEET DREAMS
by Cecelia Dowdy

Cecelia Dowdy has been an avid reader since she
Cecelia Dowdy
learned to string letters together to form words. While pursuing a business degree in college, one of her professors tried to convince her to get an English degree since he felt she was a great writer. Years later, after receiving her BS in Finance, she took her former teacher's advice, and started pursuing her literary career.

She loves to read, write, and bake delicious desserts during her spare time. Traveling is another favorite hobby, and she's been to various countries around the world. Currently she resides with her spouse and young son in Maryland.

Welcome, Cecelia. What fun or unique things can you tell us about yourself?
I love to bake, read, and watch movies!

Where is your favorite vacation spot?
Too many to name; I love nice, clean beaches with clear blue/green water. Places like Tahiti, Hawaii, and Grand Cayman are fabulous!

What do you enjoy doing for relaxation?
I like to watch movies and I also like watching old TV shows like Twilight Zone and I Love Lucy.

Please tell us a little about your novel, Sweet Dreams.
Misty Stewart found Christ shortly after the birth of her baby, causing her to make drastic changes in her life. Short-tempered and street-smart, she realizes being around her un-saved, dysfunctional family is
draining her, so she feels the Lord wants her to distance herself from her relatives. She hopes this distance from her family will allow her to deepen her faith, making it possible for her to raise her two-year-old daughter, Jennifer, in a better environment. Struggling to raise her daughter alone, she bonds with her new neighbor, Sterling Richards. She’s drawn to kind-hearted Sterling, but wonders about the deep sadness that he harbors. Sterling has familial problems that run deep, and romance is the last thing on his mind.

Sterling Richards, a professional baker, is grieving over the recent death of his father/business partner. Since his father left him as the sole beneficiary of his life insurance policy, his relationship with his identical twin brothers is strained. Why would his father fail to include his twin sons as part of the inheritance? He now struggles to mend the relationship with his brothers, struggling to run his father’s bakery alone.

Can Sterling and Misty find the courage to love one another?

Welcome, Lena. If you could have dinner with one person from today or history (except Jesus) who would it be? Why?
President George W Bush (and his wife Laura). James and I have a lot of things in common with them. I believe God sent him to our country when he was needed most. The way he handled 9-11 was true leadership.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?
Anywhere with my husband. Can I say that? We do love going on cruises, but we don’t do it very often.

Do you have a dedicated place to write, or a nook or corner of a room, or the kitchen table?
When my daughters married and left home, I turned one of the bedrooms into my office. I love it.

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
That’s easy. Tell all their friends. Request their local library to add it to their collection. Leave reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, and other sites on the Internet (This one is very important.)

Please tell us a little about your novel, A Heart’s Gift.

RESTORATION OF THE HEART
by June Foster

An award-winning author, June Foster is a retired
June Foster
teacher with a BA in education and MA in counseling. Her characters find themselves in tough situations but overcome through God's power and the Word. She writes edgy topics wrapped in a good story. To date, she's seen fourteen contemporary romances published. Find June online at her website.

Welcome, June. What takeaway value do you hope your readers receive after reading your book?
In my story, the heroine always felt she was dumpy and unattractive, yet the handsome contractor-hero found her refreshingly attractive. I'd like the reader to ponder how God doesn't look at our outer appearance but at the person we are inside. And when one has the Lord in his life, he/she is beautiful within.

What’s your favorite place you have visited?
One of my favorite places is St. Elmo, a silver mining ghost town northwest of Salida, Colorado. St. Elmo is the real life location which sparked my story Restoration of the Heart, a fictional ghost town named Silver Cliff in which my hero and heroine work together and fall in love.

Do you type or write by hand? Computer? Typewriter? Legal pad?
I definitely type on my computer and if there were no such things as computers, I'd use a typewriter. I'm not sure how authors of old managed to write such wonderful works by hand.

Lighting Round
Vacation: Beach or Mountains? Mountains
Y’all or You Guys? You guys
Biscuits or Dinner Roll? dinner rolls
Spring, summer, winter, or fall? summer
Laptop or Desktop? laptop

Please tell us a little about your novel, Restoration of the Heart
Though a Christian, Luke Chamberlain ignored his values and indulged in his beautiful fiancé's world of alcohol, parties, and nights at her apartment. After
rededicating his life to the Lord, he vows never to fall into the lifestyle again. When the state of Idaho's Tourism Department offers his construction company the contract to renovate Silver Cliff, an 1890's silver mining ghost town, he accepts.

Janie Littleton studied history in college because life in the past is simpler than the uncomfortable reality of the present. With her extra pounds, eye glasses, and mousy brown hair, no man would find her attractive. When she's offered the job of project historian at the restoration of Silver Cliff, she accepts. But as Luke Chamberlain shows an interest in her, she doubts his sincerity. To make matters worse, someone claiming to be the miner who founded Silver Cliff in 1890 intimidates her with frightening midnight visits.

Can Luke convince Janie he's in love with the godly woman she is? Can Janie hold onto her faith as she's harassed by frightening appearances of old Ezra Barclay who died a hundred years ago?

Any parting comment?
On the cover, my editor used one of my pictures I took at St. Elmo and inserted a picture of the heroine. So exciting to see my photography on the cover!

Congratulations on having your photography on your book cover! Leave a question you’d like readers to answer. (Commenters are not required to answer question to be entered in the book drawing.)
In my story, Janie Littleton had always thought herself ugly, but the hero saw beauty. Have you ever known someone who may have been unattractive by worldly standards, but the more you knew this person, the more he or she became beautiful to you?
