WHEN THE HEART SINGS
BY LIZ TOLSMA

Liz Tolsma
Liz Tolsma is the author of several WWII novels, an Amish novel, and prairie romance novellas. Her first romantic suspense releases in June. She is a popular speaker and an editor and resides next to a Wisconsin farm field with her husband and their youngest daughter and their Jack Russell terrier. Her son is a U.S. Marine, and her oldest daughter is a college student. She enjoys reading, walking, working in her large perennial garden, kayaking, and camping.

Welcome, Liz. What takeaway value do you hope your readers receive after reading your book?
I hope that they take away the truth that joy doesn’t come from our circumstances or from getting what we want, but that our only source of true joy is the Lord.

What is your favorite dessert? If you don’t like sweets. What is your favorite meal?
My favorite dessert is gluten-free crepes with Nutella and whipped cream. Yummmm.

How do people react when they find out you write?
It’s so funny. Many of them are so excited to meet a “real writer”. They want to talk to me about writing and my books. Sometimes they even want to take a picture with me.

Lightning Round:
Vacation: Beach or Mountains?  Beach
Y’all or You Guys?  You guys
Biscuits or Dinner Roll? Neither. I’m gluten free.
Spring, summer, winter, or fall? Fall
Laptop or Desktop? laptop
Mug or teacup? mug

Please tell us a little about your novel, When the Heart Sings.
Natia has a secret—and she’s hiding him right beneath her captor’s nose.

In 1943 Poland, the Nazis have forced Natia and Teodor from their peaceful farm to the harsh confines of a labor camp. When the couple is separated, Natia is chosen to be the housekeeper for the camp’s overseer, and Teodor is sent to work in the factory. Despite the strict camp rules—and the consequences for disobeying them—Natia finds a way to communicate with Teodor by sending messages through song as she passes Teodor’s dormitory.

The stakes get higher when Natia finds a Jewish orphan on the overseer’s doorstep. She is determined to protect the boy and raise him as the child she and her husband were unable to bear—but if her German captors discover how much she’s hiding, both she and Teodor may pay the ultimate price.)

  3. This book is of special interest to me, because I am Polish and German and am a genealogist for both these countries. Having had a mom in the camps as she and her family fled, this would be a compelling book for me.

  5. I love the war stories. They really make you think. My heart really goes out to the Jews. I was never a part of those wars and never dreamed i be in any war but my son fought in the 911 . He was front line in the take overs of airport and Palace. I was so scared to death I need see him again. But if it is a blessing to get hurt over there and get to come home on a medical. I loved that blessing. He had to go to Germany for surgery before he could come home. But he is home medical discharge he doesn't have full use of his arms. Liz writes beautifully. Love following your Blog JO you have such good authors who visit. joeym11@frontier.com

  6. Thanks for this wonderful interview and giveaway. Music has been around me all my life - from singing together as a family, piano lessons starting when I was 4 years old, adding trombone and organ to that list as the years went on. I took voice lessons and led worship in church. I have a song in my head all the time, so I like to be choosy about what I listen to. I really can't imagine my life without music.

  8. While I enjoy singing i am not particularly musical, but recognize the power of music. Sometimes I will get cold chills when I hear a particularly powerful song.

  9. Thank you for the interview. The book sounds really fascinating. I think music in my life has evolved. I started out with rock and roll and now mostly listen to Christian music. I do still have an occasional yearn to listen to some of the old stuff or stuff from Louisiana (where I’m from). So hubby made me a thumb drive with 12-14 albums of my favorites.

  11. Thanks, Liz & Jo, for the fun interview! I have eagerly been anticipating the release of 'When the Heart Sings'! Music has been a huge influence in my life as both of my parents were music teachers, so I was brought up with a real love for music. For me music can often speak to the heart in a way the spoken word cannot. And I love to worship the Lord through music. It just draws me into His presence! Thank you so much for a chance to win 'When the Heart Sings'!! ~ Alison Boss
